Monkey Barrel Comedy

Five Edinburgh Comedy Awards nominees, three time Scottish Comedy Award winner for best club. Monkey Barrel Comedy has achieved a lot since opening it’s doors in 2015. An intimate city centre comedy club offering top laughs every night of the week.

If you find yourself in Edinburgh at the weekend you can catch one of the fantastic multi-bill weekend shows with the best of acts from across the country. They even have an early Saturday show in the afternoon for those who have other plans in the evening.

Other highlights in the week include Project X on Tuesdays, offering up alternative comedy for those who like it silly and surreal, Top Banana on Wednesdays if you’s like to catch new acts and experienced acts trying out new material, and Spontaneous Potter on Thursdays for anyone looking for a fun Potter fix.



Stramash is a lively live music bar and late night diner in Edinburgh’s Old Town. It showcases the best bands from across Scotland and all around the world. Live music venues in Edinburgh are relatively rare and this gem in the heart of the city is one to treasure.

Operating over two floors, Stramash as a ‘larger than life’ venue set in an old church. Live music in such a unique surrounding creates an atmosphere that has to be experienced.


The Jazz Bar

Edinburgh’s multiple award-winning basement music venue, The Jazz Bar is a cornerstone of Edinburgh’s night life. As the name suggests, it is the home of Jazz in the city, but it also programs a significant amount of Blues, Soul & Funk. 

As they say, the atmospheric basement venue is often described as ‘A real New York vibe – right here in Edinburgh‘. You can sit back and relax in the seating area surrounding the stage and dance floor, and when the mood takes you (and it will!) jump right in.


The Stand Comedy Club

The second comedy club on our list shows that Edinburgh is not just a great place to come for laughs at The Fringe, but a great place for comedy all year round. Situated in the New Town area of Edinburgh, The Stand offers high quality stand-up comedy seven nights a week.

Established in the 1990s, The Stand now has venues in Glasgow & Newcastle. But Edinburgh is home and it is here you can see some of the best Scottish acts to be found, along with tour shows from up and coming act from across the country. One thing to note, when busy you may be expected to stand. So turn up early!


The Rat Pack

The Rat Pack Piano Bar is a contemporary take on the the classic piano bar. Fantastic piano virtuosos playing everything from the 1950s to modern classics. Relatively small in size, and can be quite lively at the weekends. If you don’t mind the hubbub then get yourself down for some cocktails and crooners.
